Supporting SB 1028

To our members - I'm thrilled to share our collective endorsement for California Senate Bill 1028. It acknowledges the unique challenges faced by rural areas like ours and provides a valuable tool to capitalize on our strengths.

Tourism is the lifeblood of Tuolumne County. Our breathtaking landscapes, historic sites, and charming communities draw visitors from near and far. However, the nature of our local economy means that we must continually look for ways to enhance and diversify our offerings to keep our region vibrant and inviting.

SB 1028 addresses a critical aspect of this effort by increasing the flexibility in the issuance of on-sale general licenses (Type 47), a move that promises to invigorate our hospitality sector. The ability for more establishments to serve a full range of alcoholic beverages can significantly enhance the dining and entertainment experiences we can offer to tourists and residents alike.

Here are some of the key benefits we anticipate from this legislation:

  • Enhanced Visitor Experience: A more dynamic dining and entertainment scene will make Tuolumne County an even more attractive destination for travelers.

  • Economic Growth: By opening up new opportunities for entrepreneurs, SB 1028 encourages investment and innovation in our hospitality sector.

  • Job Creation: A thriving hospitality industry leads to more jobs and greater economic stability for our community.

  • Local Control: Importantly, the bill preserves the ability for local jurisdictions to maintain control over the licensing process.

We believe that SB 1028 is a proactive measure that will support the growth and sustainability of our tourism-driven economy. The board has voted in favor of sending a letter of support to be included with the bill when it is review by the state legislature. We are confident that the bill will have a positive impact on Tuolumne County and similar regions throughout California, fostering a more vibrant and prosperous future for all.

Sincerely,

Mathew Galvan
