The Tuolumne County Chamber of Commerce is excited to share the findings from our 2024 Small Business Survey, offering a detailed look into the unique challenges and opportunities faced by local businesses. Conducted over two weeks, this survey provides critical insights into issues like workforce shortages, high operational costs, and the increasing need for local collaboration.

Key Findings at a Glance:

  • Talent Retention: Over 61% of businesses are concerned about losing skilled workers, particularly in key sectors like professional services, trade, and industrial services.

  • Rising Costs: High utility costs remain a significant challenge, with 57% of businesses, especially in retail, food & beverage, and trade sectors, reporting that these costs are squeezing their profit margins.

  • B2B Collaboration: 71% of businesses report some level of collaboration with other local businesses, but there’s still untapped potential for more partnerships and shared services that could strengthen the local economy.

Despite the smaller sample size, these findings provide a powerful snapshot into the daily realities of doing business in Tuolumne County. This survey will help local leaders, policymakers, and business support organizations make more informed decisions as they address the challenges facing our business community. From infrastructure improvements to workforce development programs, these insights will guide the allocation of resources and strategic planning across the county.
