The County of Tuolumne (population 57,000) was incorporated in 1850 as one of the original 27 counties in the State of California. Stretching from the foothills to the crest of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Tuolumne County is both a recreation paradise and a wonderful place to live.

Tuolumne County has a Superintendent of Schools Office which provides county-wide leadership and support, contributing to a strong instructional program from kindergarten through high school.
The county is served by 12 public school districts, including two high school districts, one unified school district, and one community college. In addition there are four private schools with enrollments over 50. Enrollment figures in the public schools vary from year to year in relation to current employment opportunities within the county.
